History
The idea behind Frontal Lobe originated with two medical students who, through their encounter with the research world, were surprised by the widely varying quality of database design. After several tasks involving the correction of systematic errors caused by poor setup and by designers’ lack of subject-matter knowledge and understanding of a study’s purpose, we realized that there was a lack of a professional service in this field—so that studies would not be burdened by unnecessary errors and issues.
In August 2016, the idea of database design for research purposes was brought to the table, as the relevant experience was already in place and, through our education, we possessed the professional knowledge and understanding of medical research studies.

Joachim Sejr Skovbo is one of the founders of Frontal Lobe ApS. In 2025, two new partners joined the company: Marcus la Cour Pedersen and Viktor Poulsen. Joachim has more than 10 years of experience in creating research databases in REDCap and has generated value for numerous research projects across Denmark.

Joachim Sejr Skovbo
Chief Economic Officer and Partner
I am a medical doctor and will complete my PhD in November 2025, with more than ten years of experience in clinical research, data management, and REDCap. My research work has primarily focused on cardiovascular diseases, with particular emphasis on vascular disease, and I have been involved in registry-based analyses, clinical cohort studies, and randomized trials.
Since 2015, I have worked intensively with REDCap and have, over the years, built and managed more than 100 REDCap projects. My role spans database design and implementation of electronic consent to advanced branching logic, automated data flows, and data quality assurance. I have extensive experience with both Danish and international projects and possess particular expertise in tailoring REDCap solutions to complex research needs and regulatory requirements.
As the owner of Frontal Lobe ApS, I assist research groups and institutions in developing tailored data solutions that combine high scientific quality with practical usability.

Viktor Poulsen
Chief Operating Officer And Partner
I am educated as a Diploma Engineer in Robotics from SDU (2021) and have since been a medical student. As Chief Operating Officer, I have strong competencies in communicating across these two domains. I will complete medical school in the summer of 2027.
On a daily basis, I ensure that Frontal Lobe delivers high-quality products by overseeing quality control, development, and setup of REDCap projects. I have developed our server solutions and am responsible for our SMS system for sending messages to study participants, as well as a translation module that can translate fields directly from REDCap. Since early in medical school, I have worked with randomized controlled trials and registry studies. I have experience on both sides of research projects, having acted as both a project staff member and a researcher on my own projects. Currently, I am planning a pre-graduate research year at the Department of Cardiology (Hjertemedicinsk Afdeling B) at OUH.

Marcus la Cour Pedersen

I hold a Master of Science in Engineering in Robotics, completed in June 2023, and have experience in system development across a wide range of technologies. In my day-to-day work, I am employed as a developer at Struers, where I contribute to the development of advanced machinery and laboratory equipment.
As Chief Technology Officer, I primarily work on the systems surrounding the REDCap projects. I am passionate about creating stable, scalable, and future-proof systems that make a real difference for the projects we work with.
